Welcome!
Interested in using your Kaiser benefit? We can help.
We are Julia Larson and Erin Chapman, a birth, postpartum, and lactation support doula duo based in Berkeley/Oakland and we are currently accepting clients with Kaiser insurance. We focus on enhancing pregnancy, birth and postpartum experiences by reducing fear, creating a safe space for vulnerable conversations, educating families, being advocates, offering healing touch, & so much more.
Becoming parents can feel scary and isolating, but it doesn't have to be that way. Let us set the vibe, so you can focus on bringing new life into the world.
Our goal is to join your team to demystify birth, encourage families to connect to their intuition, provide evidence based information, facilitate partner bonding and stand by your side during one of the most influential and memorable experiences of your lives.
Note: We, as most Doulas in the Bay Area, are charging a small out of pocket fee to cover the parts of our birth support package that Kaiser does not cover or compensate for. There are more details below.
Our Birth Support Package
$1000 out of pocket investment (see below)
at least 4 prenatal visits, ea 1.5-2hr long
1st: getting to know one another, labor physiology overview, creating a birth plan, aligning on birth goals, childbirth education Q&A
2nd: comfort and coping preparation, creating a partner support tool kit, creating an early labor plan, personalized hypno birthing script and recording
3rd: breastfeeding education and preparation, latch, positioning, pump and bottle feeding questions, colostrum collection
4rd: 30 min massage, movement, emotional preparation for birth— a quieter less cerebral time to welcome in your upcoming birth journey
Continuous Birth Support upon labor & delivery
We provide deeply personalized, professional, continuous birth doula support upon labor and delivery. Whenever, however, and wherever labor begins when you are ready for our support either Julia or Erin join you and support you through the birth of your baby and generally 1-2 hrs postpartum. We offer comfort measures, evidence based information, massage, advocacy, education, partner support, and presence as your journey unfolds. After birth, we also specifically help with your first breastfeeding and latch during your golden hour.
at least 3 postpartum visits, ea 1-3hr long
1st: lactation support home visit in the first 3-4 days of life— help with latch/positioning, how to know baby is getting enough, bottle feeding, pumping, and more. Erin is in an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and in a medical scope is able to offer comprehensive feeding support.
2nd: lactation support and postpartum doula care home visit— time for Q&A regarding newborn care, sleep, and best practices. Newborn care modeling, help with swaddling, burping, baby wearing, and more.
3rd: we offer a special closing visit at 6 weeks postpartum. We offer either an herbal bath or steam to the birthing person so they have some quiet time to reflect on our journey together and then we all gather to discuss the birth journey and hold space for any thoughts or feelings that have come from it.

Explanation of Coverage & Costs
Note: We, as most Doulas in the Bay Area, are charging a small out of pocket fee to cover the parts of our birth support package that Kaiser does not cover or compensate for.
What Kaiser covers:
“11 visits per pregnancy (prenatal and postpartum) within a 12-month period — the visits can be any combination of prenatal, postpartum, or support if the pregnancy ends in stillbirth or miscarriage. Nine of the visits are 1hr ea and then there are two extended postpartum visits that are 3hr ea”. This total 15 available hours of either prenatal or postpartum care. This covers the bulk of the 7 prenatal and postpartum care sessions we offer.
Support during labor and birth in a hospital
What Kaiser does *not* cover:
On call period from 38-42 weeks.
Clinical lactation support, prenatal education session and postpartum feeding support session
TENS unit rental
Massage in 4th prenatal
Herbal bath or steam in closing visit
Labor photography
Text support from time of contract to 6 week postpartum
Kaiser covers $3k of our $4k birth support package! The uncovered services above are important parts of our wrap around care model and the unique clinical lactation care we are able to provide. There is an $1000 out of pocket investment that ensures we are adequately compensated for the thorough and more in depth care we provide.
